| "The Fruits of Commerce"
by LaFarge
"The Fruits of Commerce" window, an example of John La Farge's finest work,
measures 6' 10" tall and 9' 7" wide, from the Biltmore Estate, Asheville, NC
Classically drawn figures populate a riverside scene of commerce, fishing,
shipping, and transportation. Pressed jewels and assorted chunks of glass are
fused by means of a low fire enamel to a piece of clear glass to form the bounty
pouring forth from the cornucopia. Window was completely restored to include:
documentation; cleaning; edge-gluing of broken glass; design and implementation
of custom support system to rectify multiple, folding borders at bottom of
window. |

| "Hospitalitas and Prosperitas"
by LaFarge
Detail from "Hospitalitas and Prosperitas" window from the Biltmore
Estate, Asheville, NC. Note the unusual Confetti or fractured glass,
bordered by fields of hand-faceted glass chunks held in a lead came matrix.
The glass and the techniques are representative of the innovative design
devices employed by La Farge in the windows at Biltmore.
