Built
by famous theatrical impresario David Belasco in 1907, the Belasco Theatre
was built to high standards and filled to the upper balcony with magnificent
examples of the decorative arts. Over the years, the interior fell into
disrepair. Original decorative paint schemes were covered and the scores
of Tiffany fixtures and stained glass elements had been damaged or removed
from the building.
Femenella
and Associates was engaged to restore the stained glass fixtures and
elements over a period of two years. This involved the careful cleaning
of years of smoke and grime from the delicate glass elements. Many of
the fixtures were missing and were replicated by our personnel. This
required the replication of hundreds of turtlebacks, iridized globes
and custom pressed jewels. All of the fixtures were completely restored
and rewired. Leaded glass panels were releaded. Some of the larger architectural
elements were treated in situ.
