| Great West Window
by Tiffany Studios
The Great West window of St. Paul’s Church, Nantucket, MA circa 1904 by
Tiffany Studios of New York. The window measures 10' wide x 13' high. The
Tiffany stained glass windows of St. Paul's Church are the equal of the best
art glass ever produced. They are rare in an ecumenical setting, for they
depict landscapes and flowers with no figures. The window is fabricated from
a rich and varied palette of opalescent, drapery, mottled and flashed
antique glass held in a lead came/copper-foil matrix. There are seven layers
of glass in the window. The window was completely restored to include:
complete dismantling; cleaning; edge-gluing; partial releading; adding a
series of structural fins and design of new protective glazing system. |
