"The Fruits of Commerce"

by LaFarge

"The Fruits of Commerce" window, an example of John LaFarge's finest work, measures 6' 10" tall and 9' 7" wide, from the Biltmore Estate, Asheville, NC Classically drawn figures populate a riverside scene of commerce, fishing, shipping, and transportation. Pressed jewels and assorted chunks of glass are fused by means of a low fire enamel to a piece of clear glass to form the bounty pouring forth from the cornucopia. Window was completely restored to include: documentation; cleaning; edge-gluing of broken glass; design and implementation of custom support system to rectify multiple, folding borders at bottom of window.
